Join us August 19, 1:00-2:30pm when we will welcome Shawne Williams.
Shawne graduated cum laude in 1997 with a B.S. in Community Health from Indiana State University. She has also accumulated a total of 20 hours in graduate studies towards an M.S. in Educational Technology. Shawne has been a Certified Health Education Specialist since 2003 and utilizes the competencies associated with this training to educate the community about health-related issues. Shawne has been employed by Lincare, Inc. as a Sales Representative since 2005 and partners with Regional Hospital to provide a support group for patients and caregivers affected by respiratory illness.
Shawne will be presenting information on COPD, the different therapies available as well as COPD-related facts and figures for Parke and surrounding counties. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a lung disease in which the lungs are damaged, making it hard to breathe. In COPD, the airways—the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs—are partly obstructed, making it difficult to get air in and out. COPD develops slowly, and it may be many years before you notice symptoms like feeling short of breath. Most of the time, COPD is diagnosed in middle-aged or older people. COPD is a major cause of death and illness, and it is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States and throughout the world. Although there is no cure for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), your symptoms can be managed, and damage to your lungs can be slowed.
